Lola’s Sari Sari Store

Tita Mia from Kamayan ATL wanted art by local Filipinas to cover the walls of her brick and mortar. She gave me free rein to create any design, as long as it was Filipino. We went with a sari-sari store as a callback to her partner Carlo’s childhood memories of his Lola’s shop.

I decided to explore a new visual style and keep things very bubbly and bright. I wanted it to feel toy-like and thick, with blocky shapes and simplified designs for the snacks.

The piece is mounted on multiple pieces of foam board to layer the elements and create more depth.
